Mentoring is an opportunity to give back in a way that elevates the life of a young adult so that they can achieve better outcomes. We serve low-income often first-generation students in the academic middle, as they are generally on the cusp of college eligibility but are unlikely to further their education without additional support. Our mission is to see these students to and through college with the help of our dedicated volunteer mentors.
Young adults who were at-risk for falling off track but had a mentor are:
- 55% more likely to enroll in college
- 78% more likely to volunteer regularly
- 130% more likely to hold leadership positions*
“Since mentoring Chelsea, her grades have improved and she’s developed an excitement for wanting to attend college, especially after our visit to Trinity that CPE organized. She not only takes advantage of opportunities that CPE provides but seeks them out. She’s more engaged at school from playing on the soccer team to participating in the first ever Hispanic Heritage Assembly. I see her taking risks and pushing herself to be the BEST version of herself.”
-Beth, CPE mentor
We create an environment where students learn the importance of building and maintaining long-term relationships. This skill alone helps them gain an understanding of networks as tools for success, and opens them up to new and exciting opportunities in their educational and professional lives. Here are benefits of becoming a Spark the Journey mentor:
