What made you want to work at Spark the Journey?

I was working with Spark as a contractor, and I liked learning about how Spark isn’t just another mentoring organization. Spark is different in that we catapult young people into the future by removing barriers to help them see all the possibilities out there! Everyone doesn’t have to go to college.

Who’s a person in your life that ignited a spark in your journey?

I had a boss at a university once who was the first person to take a step back and let me apply what I know to my job. I was super successful and got promoted within a year. That department also raised millions of dollars as a result of my work. That wouldn’t have happened if I was an order-taker and not allowed to be strategic and think big!

What college did you attend, and what was your favorite thing about it?

Spelman College (Atlanta) for undergrad; Academy of Art (San Francisco) for grad school. Favorite thing about Spelman was the competition! Favorite thing about AAU was the surprising support from others who were my direct competition.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

BEACH!

If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would it be?

Rick Rubin.

What three traits define you?

Free-spirited; honest; analytical.

What’s the most rewarding aspect about your role at Spark the Journey?

I’ve been in marketing communications for a long time and I love that Spark is open to my ideas and allows me to take charge on the things I feel confident in pursuing. I can thrive as the visionary that I am!

What’s one thing you think more people should know about Spark the Journey?

I love the flexibility. I have a schedule that people could consider odd, but as a true creative and deep thinker, I work best in the evenings when the day is calming down. I’ve designed my home office in a manner that aligns with this schedule and it stimulates my neurons in the best way!
