Spark Employee Spotlight with Cammy Sessoms

Cammy is a Program Coordinator at Spark the Journey where she helps manage a caseload of mentor-mentee pairs for the high school team. She supports the planning and execution of unique programming meant to bolster meaningful relationships, academic success, and career road mapping for participants.

What made you want to work at Spark the Journey? 

As cliché as it sounds, I truly believe it takes a village for anyone to thrive. Spark has granted me the privilege to be a part of that village in a capacity I’ve never envisioned before.

Who’s a person in your life that ignited a spark in your journey?

My mom, who, despite serious health challenges throughout her life, has remained steadfast in her belief in brighter days.

What college did you attend, and what was your favorite thing about it? 

I attended Washington State University – GO COUGS! My favorite thing about it was the essence of community around the shared goal of educational advancement.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy curating playlists, spending time outdoors, and testing my skills in the kitchen.

If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would it be? 

Issa Rae. Her cinematic lens and unique voice tell the tales of many likeminded women.

What three traits define you? 

Creative, growth-oriented, and bold.

What’s the most rewarding aspect about your role at Spark the Journey? 

Being able to continually celebrate the large and small wins with participants as they embark on their journeys.

What’s your favorite part about working at Spark the Journey? 

Knowing that I work on a team that cares about the holistic wellness of the families that we serve!
